My wife and I stayed here for a marriage retreat weekend and when we checked in the room I reserved was not available. Matter of fact we reserved a King Suite with a Beach view and they did not have a single room available with a King bed. So we had to settle for two double beds which was almost an oxymoron because we were here for a Marriage Retreat. Needless to say it did not start off well. I will say this the young woman checking me in tried to accommodate us but the manager would not allow it and she even threw in a coupe of lunches there at the Hilton which was kind but still didn't put me in a bed with my wife.
Upset and angry I didn't really have a choice. So we checked in and settled into our room. Still mad I decide to send Hilton an email and I received an auto response that probably didn't help in the moment. We made the best of it and enjoyed our time together.
This is a beautiful hotel and MOST of the staff was very friendly but there was a couple circumstances that seriously lowered the 5 star rating I would have given them. I was there during Hurricane Irma and the first incident was when I attempted to extend our stay since our home was in an evacuation zone and we couldn't get home. The lady at the counter attempted to price gouge us. Disgusted we ended up getting a room in another hotel for our last day.
The second was when I witnessed an employee giving a woman with her pet a hard time. The lady was holding her small dog and the employee got onto her about not having it on a leash. He got on the radio instead of simply letting her know the dog needed to be on a leash. The dog probably didn't weigh more than 10 lbs and was curled up in its owners arms.
Service was outstanding! Wonderful food and drinks! Resort was well kept. Found the rooms to be slightly outdated at the Hilton location though. The third floor view of the ocean and pool was partially blocked by the roof of the lobby from room 326. Definitely not a deal-breaker though. Staff was courteous and the breakfast was amazing!
Room was great. TV had extra features so took some learning. Made a reservation at Seagars steakhouse that is part of the hotel. Proper attire was acquired. Tried to reserve over the phone, no one answered and they would call you back. That never happened. Went in person, and the greater was very snooty. So much so that we didn't eat there.
Great location and beach. Hurricane Nate hit while we were here but cleared up in a couple of days. The Beach was back to normal and all was well. Great beach service! We paid $39 for a beach set up that was well worth it. (2 chairs, umbrella and towels). You can buy them cheap at Alvins Island but didn't want to bother carrying them back and forth through the hotel. Drinks and food at beach were very good.
No sympathy for evacuees and there were many fleeing from the Eastern and Western coastal regions.
The reason I'm giving them a 4 star is because two days after we checked out I received a phone call from their GM Gary. Awesome guy by the way. He gladly listened to what had happened and offered his sincerest apologies. He also gave us a break on our stay which was like icing on the cake. I appreciated the phone call more than anything and Gary allowed us to be wowed by Hilton even after our stay. I wasn't planning on staying at a Hilton ever again but because of Gary I will give it another shot!
Thank you Gary for making our experience better even after we left!
